Charles Anderson, founder of Enterprise Strategic Coaching, shares his profound journey from the demanding world of corporate America to a purpose-driven life of leadership coaching, deeply rooted in his faith. With over 30 years of experience, Charles has transitioned from climbing the corporate ladder to guiding extraordinary leaders through transformational experiences, helping them discover or rediscover their passion and purpose.
Charles's path to entrepreneurship was not without its trials. After decades in financial services, leading teams and developing talent, he found himself drowning in stress. A severe health crisis in 2017, including six months of walking pneumonia and a hospital stay, served as a pivotal wake-up call. It was during this time that God reminded him of his innate desire to coach and help others grow, not just in strategy but in their holistic well-being. This led him to pursue executive leadership coaching certification in 2018, laying the groundwork for his future venture.
Initially launching his business as Uncommon Health Allies, Charles explains the divine inspiration behind the name. 'Uncommon' signifies a holistic approach to health—spiritual, physical, and emotional—recognizing that true leadership and business success are intertwined with one's overall well-being. 'Health' emphasizes this holistic perspective, and 'Allies' reflected a partnership with his wife, a health coach at the time. Though the name later evolved to Enterprise Strategic Coaching to better reflect his focus on applying his financial services acumen to leadership development, the core mission remained: to help leaders discover their authentic selves and purpose.
For Charles, faith is not just a part of his business; it is the cornerstone. He intentionally leads with his faith, understanding that it serves as a safe and guiding presence for his clients. He recounts a personal struggle with fear of stepping out from the comfort of a corporate paycheck, realizing it stemmed from a lack of full trust in God. Embracing Proverbs 3:5-6, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart,' became a transformative principle. This trust enabled him to navigate the uncertainties of entrepreneurship, recognizing that every client interaction is not about him, but about leaning into God's purpose for others.
Charles shares a profound decision: leaving a high-paying corporate role that had contributed to his health crisis. This was a difficult choice that defied conventional logic but was deeply guided by his faith. He weighed the 'pain of giving up that role' against the 'gain of giving up that role', finding that this process strengthened his faith and developed perseverance, as described in James 1:2-4. This experience now informs all his business transactions, fostering an environment of complete trust in God's provision.
His faith profoundly influences his generosity. Reflecting on experiences like hosting exchange students from former Soviet Union countries for nine years, Charles highlights the rewarding nature of leading with his heart and taking risks in faith. These experiences, alongside leading youth groups and serving in church leadership, solidified his understanding of the value of his time and the importance of seeking God's direction in how it's spent. Financially, Charles views every dollar in his business as belonging to God. He emphasizes 'getting on my face and sucking carpet fibers', seeking divine guidance for every expenditure. This perspective has moved him beyond a mere 10% tithe to recognizing that all resources are God's, and his role is one of faithful stewardship.
Charles offers two key pieces of advice for other Christian business leaders:
For those early in their journey of integrating faith into business, Charles strongly advises joining a peer council of like-minded individuals who share a common faith in Jesus. This community provides a safe space for sharing best practices, seeking godly wisdom, and navigating the trials and triumphs of running a business for the King's benefit. Ultimately, Charles reminds us that Jesus is not a means to an end, but 'the way, the truth, and the life,' and that wisdom is always available by asking Him.
