Apryl Morin's journey is a testament to the transformative power of faith in navigating the complexities of leadership and business. From her early days as a 'PK kid' and worship leader to her current role as a Strategic Education and Business Consultant and COO, Apryl's path has been marked by a deep commitment to spiritual principles and a relentless pursuit of purpose.
Apryl's upbringing in a ministry-focused household instilled in her a strong spiritual foundation. This was further enriched by her academic pursuits, including an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master's in organizational development (OD). Her OD background, born from a desire to improve strategic planning in education, equipped her with the tools to drive holistic change and operational excellence.
Like many, Apryl experienced 'church hurt,' a period of trauma that led her to step back from ministry. However, her faith remained a cornerstone. After finding a new, non-denominational church home, she re-engaged with her spiritual life, emphasizing daily devotions, scripture reading, prayer, and joint devotions with her husband and daughter.
A pivotal moment in her career came with the closure of ECOT, the largest e-school in the United States. This experience, marked by media scrutiny and public outcry, exposed a misalignment between her values and the board's decisions. "It was definitely not a godly way to do things," she recalls, highlighting the ethical dilemmas she faced. This event propelled her out of the charter school system and into consulting, where she could guide leaders toward more principled decision-making.
Apryl's faith profoundly shapes where she invests her time, talent, and resources. Recognizing her strengths in behind-the-scenes strategic planning, operations, and providing insightful input, she has intentionally shifted her focus from front-facing leadership to supporting leaders from a more advisory role. This strategic move allows her to leverage her OD expertise to offer godly counsel rather than just operational advice.
Her company, Harbor Light Strategies, serves as the vehicle for this marketplace ministry. Through it, she consults with schools and organizations, helps launch startups like Eduquencher (an online testing and tutoring platform), and provides grant writing services, often for ministry-driven non-profits. Her vision extends to creating a niche for private school leaders, offering them edification and support that integrates both operational excellence and spiritual deepening.
When asked for advice for other Christian business leaders, Apryl emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with people who edify and build up one's spirit and integrity. This fosters an environment where all decisions are made within a godly frame, helping leaders navigate difficult situations with staff, customers, and clients while staying centered in their faith.
Apryl Morin's story is a powerful illustration of how personal faith can not only guide an individual through professional challenges but also transform their career into a purposeful platform for impact and positive change.
