In a world often driven by profit margins and expediency, Belisier Chery, CEO and founder of ClickMartHT, stands as a testament to the power of unwavering faith in business. Operating in Haiti, a nation grappling with profound economic and political crises, Belisier's journey with ClickMartHT is not just about commerce; it’s a powerful narrative of purpose, integrity, and a deep-seated commitment to glorifying God through every decision.
ClickMartHT began as a solution to a pressing need among university students in Haiti. Belisier observed students struggling to sell goods and services on campus, often forced to miss classes to make ends meet. “Sometimes they have to skip class to try to sell something,” he recalls. Recognizing this challenge, he launched ClickMartHT, a platform designed to connect student entrepreneurs, enabling them to trade and learn without compromising their education. What started at one university quickly expanded, now serving students across various institutions in Port-au-Prince.
However, building a business in Haiti is far from easy. Belisier openly shares the immense challenges: “Our country is in a deep crisis.” Political instability frequently disrupts operations, forcing the postponement of crucial events. Yet, amidst these formidable obstacles, his faith remains the bedrock of his leadership and business operations.
“My faith is in the center of everything I do,” Belisier asserts. This isn’t just a personal conviction; it’s woven into the very fabric of ClickMartHT’s core values and policies. The company operates on principles derived from the Lord Jesus Christ, ensuring that every action and offering on the platform aligns with a higher purpose. This commitment was powerfully demonstrated when ClickMartHT chose to ban certain products, specifically those of a sexual nature, despite potential financial gain. Belisier recounts a conversation with a user who questioned this decision: “I had a very, very calm conversation with him to discuss with him about our faith in Jesus Christ and all. We believe that this kind of product is not product that really, really glorify God.” The user ultimately left the platform, but for Belisier, the integrity of their values was non-negotiable. “We decide to keep our values, not to compromise our values for the gain we might get from this user.”
This steadfastness highlights a crucial aspect of kingdom business: alignment of values over immediate profit. In a society where compromise often seems the easiest path, ClickMartHT stands as a beacon of integrity. Belisier believes that true success, in the long term, is built on character, commitment, and ethical conduct. The content shared on their platform reflects this, focusing on integrity, character, and citizen engagement, aiming to empower student entrepreneurs to make a positive impact on Haitian society.
When asked about trusting God amidst the seemingly impossible task of scaling a business in a crisis-ridden economy, Belisier’s response is profound. He acknowledges the overwhelming nature of the challenges but counters with a powerful truth: “God can do the impossible.” He distinguishes between physical sight and spiritual vision, stating, “Our vision, when we see with your eyes, is the greater enemy of our vision. The vision that come from our heart that God put in our heart to do something.” He started ClickMartHT with a leap of faith, not knowing how things would unfold, but driven by a desire to glorify God.
Today, despite the ongoing crises that have seen many businesses and individuals flee Haiti, ClickMartHT continues to thrive. They host conferences, webinars, and connect with people, steadfast in their belief that God will continue to work miracles. What began as a free service, with no clear monetization strategy, has now become profitable, generating fulfillment not just for Belisier but for the many users whose businesses have flourished through the platform. “God used me to do something to serve and impact other people’s lives,” he reflects with joy.
Belisier’s message to fellow Christian entrepreneurs, particularly those in more abundant nations who might feel overwhelmed or isolated, is one of enduring faith. He reminds them that the path God lays out is not always clear or easy. “More often God give you an idea. He show you the destination. But he doesn't show you the path.” Like Joseph in the Bible, who was shown a glorious future but not the arduous journey, entrepreneurs must trust God even when they don't understand the way. “I don’t understand, but I know that I serve a God who is faithful, who can do the impossible.” His encouragement is to continue to work by faith, to show up with love and compassion, and to keep believing in God, knowing that faithfulness in the journey ultimately glorifies Him.
Belisier Chery’s story is a powerful reminder that true leadership and business success, from a kingdom perspective, are not merely about achieving earthly metrics, but about living out one’s faith, impacting lives, and bringing glory to God, even in the most challenging circumstances.
