Dr. Jacqueline V. Carter's life is a testament to the transformative power of unwavering faith, resilience, and a deep-seated commitment to purpose. Her journey, marked by unexpected turns and profound lessons, reveals how God orchestrates every step, even when the path seems unclear. From a self-proclaimed 'radical' young woman to a highly educated community educator and entrepreneur, Dr. Carter's story is an inspiring narrative of trusting God's plan.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Dr. Carter describes a childhood filled with love and traditional values. Her parents, though young, instilled in her a strong sense of independence and morality. This early foundation fueled her entrepreneurial spirit, even as she initially resisted traditional paths like college. She honed her skills in various fields, from dry cleaning to banking, always seeking to master her craft. However, she encountered a 'glass ceiling' in banking, prompting a pivot into real estate.
Her foray into real estate brought a pivotal lesson in faith. After meticulously planning her real estate business, securing an office, and even hosting a grand opening, she realized a crucial omission: she hadn't explicitly asked God for clients. This 'first real faith lesson' taught her the importance of aligning her vision with divine provision. The subsequent repossession of her car, despite her parents' generous help, became a profound moment of introspection. It was a stark reminder that even with human support, true reliance must be on God. Her parents' frustration, though born of love, highlighted the expectation that her faith should yield different outcomes, pushing her to deepen her understanding of God's ways.
Another significant lesson emerged from a business partnership that faltered due to misaligned values. Dr. Carter learned that 'don't be unequally yoked' extends beyond romantic relationships to business ventures, emphasizing the importance of shared principles and integrity. This led her to leave St. Louis, eventually returning to care for her ailing mother. Her mother's passing propelled her into Bible college, a period of deep immersion in faith that would redefine her life's trajectory.
During her time in Bible college and subsequent graduate studies, Dr. Carter grappled with the 'why' of her academic pursuits, questioning how they aligned with her entrepreneurial spirit. Yet, her health challenge with breast cancer further solidified her reliance on God. It was during this period that key scriptures became her guiding lights.
These scriptures, repeatedly brought to her attention, became her mantra, shaping her understanding of purpose. She realized that her extensive educational journey, including her PhD in leadership and policy studies, was not about corporate success but about equipping her to be a community educator.
Her passion for adult education, particularly GED preparation, became her niche. She recognized her unique gift for understanding and communicating complex information, making it accessible to those who need it most. Her experience teaching individuals who faced diverse challenges, including those involved with the justice system and those battling addiction, solidified her commitment to this calling.
Orchard Presentations, her educational consulting business, is now focused on virtual and in-person GED preparation, including a Saturday School model. She understands the importance of commitment from her students, even implementing a fee structure to foster ownership and seriousness. Simultaneously, she has re-entered the insurance industry, a full-circle moment that allows her to combine her passion for education with a practical means of support. This new venture, which she plans to brand as WC Agency in honor of her parents, provides an opportunity to educate others on the importance of life insurance, a lesson she learned firsthand through the loss of her parents.
Dr. Carter's journey underscores a powerful truth: God's plan often unfolds in unexpected ways. Her 'bucking and screaming' against paths she didn't initially understand ultimately led her to a place of profound purpose and fulfillment. She now embraces her role as a community educator, using her gifts and experiences to empower others.
Her advice to others is simple yet profound: your passion won't go away. It's a burning fire that God uses to guide you, even through the most winding roads. Her life is a vibrant testimony to the fact that with God, every twist and turn is a lesson, and every challenge is an opportunity for a deeper reliance on His unwavering love and guidance.
