Jim Matush, a seasoned financial advisor and founder of Trinity Wealth Advisors, shares a profound journey of faith, purpose, and resilience, demonstrating how deeply rooted Christian principles can transform both personal life and professional endeavors. His story is a testament to finding God's purpose even amidst life's most challenging trials.
For 29 years, Jim has navigated the financial world, but his path took a significant turn in 1996 at a Promise Keeper convention. Raised in a Southern Baptist home, Jim admits he knew 'about the Lord, but didn't know the Lord.' His early career was driven by success, believing all paths led to God. This perspective shifted dramatically after a powerful spiritual encounter at the convention, where he fell to his knees, crying like a baby, and felt a profound calling to dedicate his life to Christ.
This newfound faith led to the formation of Trinity Wealth Advisors in 1997, built on the belief that 'money was just the tool' and that there was a deeper purpose behind wealth. Jim's journey, however, was not without immense personal challenge. In 2000, his 15-year-old son, Jamie, tragically died in a rock-climbing accident. This devastating loss became the crucible through which Jim's faith was tested and ultimately strengthened. He recalls carrying his son out of the mountains, desperately trying to revive him. All the while, a scripture, 'Be joyful, pray continuously, for this is God's will for you in all things,' echoed in his mind.
Jamie's death marked the most difficult year of Jim's life, yet also the closest he had ever been to the Lord. He found healing in writing about his experience and, with his family, started a youth center in Jamie's memory, touching thousands of lives. This period also introduced him to spiritual warfare, as he battled internal and external voices of despair.
One pivotal moment came three days after Jamie's passing when Jim, unable to speak or eat, received a call from his son's pastor. The pastor shared Romans 8:28, 'For all things work for the good, for those who know the Lord and for his purpose.' This verse brought an immediate, profound sense of peace. That same night, Jim experienced a vivid dream where Jamie told him, 'Dad, I know you don't understand. I know you want to be here. Thanks, but no thanks. It's pretty awesome up here. And by the way, my job is done. Yours is just beginning.' This message lifted Jim's spirit and solidified his conviction that God had a plan, even in tragedy.
Jim's story resonates with the principle that God 'never wastes a tear.' He and his wife found themselves ministering to other couples who had lost children, realizing that their trial equipped them to comfort others. He emphasizes that God is present through 'the thick and the thin,' and that true growth often emerges from life's deepest valleys.
For those seeking to integrate faith and work, Jim offers simple yet profound advice: 'Seek Him with all your heart.' He points to Jeremiah 29:11-14, reminding us that God has plans to prosper us and give us hope and a future. Jim encourages boldness in faith, sharing his own experience of how his son's story naturally opens doors to share his testimony, transforming tragedy into a powerful witness of God's grace.
Jim's journey underscores that faith is not a private matter but a transformative force meant to be lived out openly. He challenges the notion of a 'pity party,' asserting that God will use every struggle for His glory. He reflects on the 'Halftime' concept by Bob Buford, a mentor who taught him the importance of focusing on one's true calling. While Jim initially thought the youth center was his halftime, he realized God had a plan for his business to thrive, even as he dedicated himself to ministry.
Jim Matush's life is a powerful example of how a deep, abiding faith can turn life's most painful experiences into a platform for purpose, ministry, and profound personal growth. His commitment to God's plan, even when it's scary, illustrates the true meaning of walking by faith.
