NASCAR Official Kirk Price: Faith, Leadership, and Standing for What's Right

Listen to this article

In the high-octane world of NASCAR, where speed and precision reign supreme, Kirk Price stands as a testament to the power of faith, unwavering leadership, and the courage to stand for what is right. As a NASCAR inspector and official, Price holds a critical role, ensuring every car and truck meets stringent specifications before hitting the track. But beyond the technicalities of motorsports, Price’s journey reveals a deeper commitment to living out his faith in every aspect of his life.

The Unseen Preparation: Fueling Faith Daily

For Price, intentional living begins long before the roar of engines. He dedicates 45 minutes to an hour each day to spiritual preparation, a ritual he describes as listening to God. This daily alignment is not a mere formality but a vital shield against the pressures of his demanding role. “I deal with so many people at one time, and sometimes I have to be on these fronts where I have to listen to them, but at the same time, keep the negativity off of me,” Price explains. This disciplined approach ensures he is grounded and resilient, able to navigate the diverse personalities and intense competition that define his work.

A Defining Moment: Faith in Action During a National Crisis

Price’s faith isn't just a personal practice; it's a compass that guides his decisions, even when they go against the grain of societal expectations. He recalls a pivotal moment during the George Floyd protests, a time when the world grappled with profound social unrest. While many expressed their pain through destructive means, Price chose a different path, one rooted in peaceful protest and moral conviction.

“I had to determine where I stand as a human being and where I stand in my faith,” he recounts. During the national anthem, Price took a knee and saluted, a powerful gesture to acknowledge the pain and injustice while honoring his country. This decision, though potentially controversial in the NASCAR community, was a deeply personal one, driven by his moral compass. “It overrode anything that was… that the world thought I should do at the time,” he states. This act of quiet defiance resonated deeply, demonstrating that the call for change extended even to unexpected arenas like motorsports.

Generosity and Purpose: The 'Old School to Nu Skool' Vision

Price’s faith also manifests in his commitment to generosity and community impact. He shares the story of his non-profit, 'Old School to Nu Skool,' an initiative he co-founded to introduce young adults to the vast opportunities within motorsports. This program, born from a desire to provide nourishment and exposure to underserved youth, predates his official entry into NASCAR. It exemplifies his belief that true impact comes from aligning with God’s plan, even if the path isn't immediately clear.

“The things that you are given that you know like the back of your hand, that’s what you need to go with,” Price advises. The program aims to show young people that motorsports offers more than just driving or mechanics; it encompasses marketing, design, creativity, and countless other avenues. It’s about building a foundation and guiding them toward possibilities they never knew existed.

Leading by Example: Simple, Authentic Encouragement

When it comes to encouraging other Christian leaders, Price emphasizes authenticity over dogma. He doesn't “cram religion down other people’s throats.” Instead, he focuses on living a life that reflects his values. “They actually see a family man. They see a man that’s… his faith is… at all,” he explains. This lived example often sparks curiosity, leading others to ask about his source of strength and resilience.

His advice is simple: stay prayed up, understand that there will be bumps in the road, and keep following the path God has laid out. He likens it to helping someone out of a hole rather than falling in with them. “You might want to go around the hole and help them out on the other end to pull them out that hole,” he says, underscoring a practical, empathetic approach to leadership and mentorship.

Kirk Price’s journey in NASCAR is more than a career; it’s a platform for purpose. Through his daily devotion, courageous stands, and commitment to empowering the next generation, he embodies the principles of transformational leadership, proving that faith can indeed thrive and inspire, even in the fastest lanes of life.
