In the bustling world of entrepreneurship, where profit often dictates purpose, one salon owner stands out, weaving faith into the very fabric of her business. Cheisa “Keke” Brumfield, owner of Msingi Wa Asili (MWA) Beauty Salon, doesn't just style hair; she ministers from the chair, transforming lives one client at a time.
Keke’s journey is a powerful testament to integrating Christian faith with business. For her, MWA Salon is more than a beauty establishment; it’s a ministry. “We are a faith-based salon who specializes in all textures and types of hair,” Keke explains. “Knowing that our first purpose in doing hair is ministry… God gave us the tool of doing hair. However, He also has given our chair to be the platform to where we minister to our clients.” This unique approach means delivering not just a beautiful look, but also uplifting and drawing clients closer to God’s Kingdom.
This intentional integration of faith permeates every aspect of MWA Salon’s operations. Keke views each day as a blessing, an opportunity to serve. “Anytime God allows me to be able to service and give to someone, maybe it could be a look or a word, it’s definitely what we stand on,” she shares. This gratitude extends beyond personal passion, aligning her business with God’s purpose for her life. The salon chair becomes a sacred space for sharing testimonies and listening to clients’ stories, fostering a private environment for spiritual growth.
Keke’s faith has also been the cornerstone of her most significant business decisions. She recounts a pivotal moment when God led her to open her own salon. Starting as a booth renter, then moving to a suite, Kiki experienced a profound divine intervention. “It wasn’t even something I expected. It was a vivid dream that I had of a building,” she recalls. When circumstances led her to seek a new location, she walked into the very building from her dream. This was a clear call from God, despite her feelings of unpreparedness. “I didn’t even know how I was going to cover or even get the building,” she admits. Yet, with faith “the size of a mustard seed,” God made every obstacle disappear. “Everything was a yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,” she affirms, highlighting how faith moved mountains in her entrepreneurial journey.
Generosity, guided by faith, is another hallmark of Keke’s business. She believes faith delivers discernment, crucial for knowing when and where to give. “With me having faith, it gives me the discernment on when God wants me to move and give,” she states. This discernment helps her navigate the complexities of giving back, ensuring her contributions are aligned with God’s will.
MWA Salon consistently gives back through discounts, free services, and support for organizations helping less fortunate children and mothers. Kiki lives by the principle: “Give, and it shall be given to you. Great measures, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.”
For other Christian business leaders, Keke offers a powerful encouragement: “Lean closer and closer to God during this transition.” She emphasizes that God orders the steps of a business owner, directing them on the path they should go. “Keep the faith,” she urges, “and once you rely on God and leave it all in His hands, just know without a shadow of a doubt He will provide.” She believes God will bring unexpected people into their paths to elevate their businesses, reminding them that “if God brought you to it, He will definitely bring you through it.”
Beyond business, Keke’s personal testimony further illustrates God’s faithfulness. Once fearful of public speaking and social media, God challenged her to step out of her comfort zone. Despite her reluctance to engage with social media, God persistently prompted her. Just recently, during her Bible study, she felt a clear directive: “Today is the day that you will be going on social media.”
Overcoming internal resistance and the devil’s whispers of doubt, she went live, expecting to discuss her profession. Instead, God led her to share her Bible study, resulting in over 143 people tuning in and expressing how her message blessed their souls. “We got to get out our own way,” Keke testifies. “When we just be obedient, there is nothing in life that God will not do for us.” This personal victory underscores the transformative power of obedience and faith, proving that God shows up and shows out when we trust Him.
Cheisa Brumfield’s story is a beacon for those seeking to merge their faith with their professional calling. Through MWA Salon, she demonstrates that business can be a powerful platform for ministry, generosity, and personal transformation, all guided by an unwavering faith in God’s plan.
