In a world often seeking surface-level solutions, Kevin Creutz, Executive Director of The Lutheran Schools Partnership (TLSP), offers a refreshing perspective on leadership rooted in unwavering faith and a deep commitment to service. Based in Fort Wayne, TLSP is an educational service organization that provides vital resources and training to 35 Lutheran schools across Northeast Indiana, encompassing approximately 5,000 students and 500 dedicated educators. This extensive network, spanning about an hour's drive around Fort Wayne, highlights a significant impact often unseen by the wider community.
At the heart of TLSP's mission is a profound dedication to glorifying Jesus Christ. "Our mission specifically says that we glorify Jesus by providing training and resources to Lutheran schools," Creutz shares, emphasizing the daily integration of faith into their work. This isn't just a statement; it's a living principle. With three full-time staff members who are rostered, trained, and certified Lutheran educators, TLSP embodies its Christian identity in every aspect of its operations.
For Creutz and his team, faith isn't confined to specific moments but permeates every interaction. Meetings, events, and training sessions invariably begin with prayer, setting a spiritual foundation for their work. Beyond conventional instructional methods, TLSP provides resources that help schools maintain their distinct Lutheran identity and a Christ-centered focus. This is particularly crucial given that many students in these schools may not have a church home, making their time in school potentially the only exposure they have to Christian teachings and worship.
When asked about the biblical principles guiding his leadership, Creutz unequivocally points to the core tenet of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. "For us, it's, you know, as Lutherans, we've received salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, and that is what we are trying to incorporate into our schools each and every day," he explains. This foundational belief drives their efforts to teach students about God's love and grace, making the school environment a place of spiritual formation as much as academic learning.
This faith-driven approach extends to how TLSP stewards its resources. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, every decision regarding time, talent, and treasure is viewed through the lens of stewardship. Creutz highlights the constant evaluation: "Does that really serve us or does that serve the schools and the educators?" This commitment means prioritizing programs and resources that directly benefit teachers and students, even if it means foregoing additional staff or internal conveniences. The focus is always on maximizing impact for those they serve, reflecting a Christ-like example of putting others' needs before one's own.
Creutz emphasizes the Lutheran concept of vocation – identifying the gifts God has given you and finding where they intersect with the needs of God's people. This isn't limited to Christian organizations; it applies to every sphere of life. "God places his people everywhere," he states, encouraging Christian leaders to prayerfully consider how their unique talents can be used to serve God's people, whether in a non-profit, a secular business, or any other setting. This perspective empowers leaders to see their work, whatever it may be, as a sacred calling to make a transformative difference in the world.
