In the dynamic world of entrepreneurship, many leaders seek success, but few anchor their journey in a foundation as profound as Roberto Gonzalez, co-founder of Wash Broz. His story is a powerful testament to leading with divine purpose, trusting Christ's plans, and transforming challenges into opportunities for spiritual and business growth.
From humble beginnings in 2020, pressure washing trash cans with his brother, Roberto's venture quickly evolved beyond a summer job. What started as a means to pay for college, fueled by his mother's relentless encouragement and a viral Facebook post, blossomed into a thriving enterprise. "My mom kept pushing us, like, hey, no, keep going, keep going," Roberto recalls, highlighting the early vision that propelled them forward. This initial grind, cleaning trash cans for $25 a pop, taught them resilience and the power of consistent effort.
Roberto’s path wasn't without its crossroads. A talented soccer player, his lifelong dream was to play professionally. However, God had a different plan. "Doors kept shutting down on that side," he shares, describing a pivotal night of prayer and surrender. "It was so obvious that doors kept shutting down on that side and then I had to let it go... I was crying, you know, I was giving up, you know, since I was 4 years old that I wanted to pursue, to be a professional." This painful but obedient surrender marked a turning point. As he committed fully to the business, focusing on God's will, opportunities began to multiply. "As soon as I started going all in, focusing more on what he wanted me to do, the business started growing more."
This principle of divine guidance extends to his team. Roberto's prayer, "God, please send me the people that I need in my life right now and push the wrong people away," has been answered with a team that shares his vision and work ethic. He emphasizes the importance of humility and continuous learning, surrounding himself with mentors who provide invaluable guidance.
Business, like life, is full of storms. Roberto vividly recounts a recent period where "everything that could go wrong went wrong" – trucks breaking down, equipment failing, and payment delays. In such moments, it's easy to lose focus and succumb to anxiety. However, Roberto's faith provides an anchor. "Whenever I focus on the Lord and I work on my spiritual self and my mind, things start to pick back up again and work out, and they always work out." He sees these trials as character-building opportunities, reminding himself of Jeremiah 29:11: God's plans are for prosperity, not harm.
His approach to problem-solving during these crises is deeply rooted in his faith: "Just working one problem at a time. Not get overwhelmed by everything, focusing more on, what's the problem that we need to fix now? Let's go attack that one, then we attack the next one." This methodical, faith-driven approach allows him to maintain peace amidst chaos, trusting that every challenge serves a higher purpose.
Roberto's leadership style is a reflection of his faith. Instead of reacting with anger during difficult times, he leads with grace, fostering a culture of adaptability and solution-finding within his team. "Handling with grace... that's something that I see that a lot of leaders don't do," he notes. This approach encourages his team to become leaders themselves, proactively seeking solutions rather than solely relying on him and his brother.
Looking ahead, Roberto's vision for Wash Broz is not just about expansion but about developing people. His dream is to empower his team members to achieve their own dreams within the organization, creating a meaningful work environment. "My biggest dream is for them to accomplish their dreams within our organization and build something that it's meaningful to them as well, not just another job." This kingdom-minded approach to business extends to his desire to see Wash Broz become a leading company in DFW, and eventually, a franchised entity across the US, all while inspiring others through his testimony.
For Christian business owners facing isolation, overwhelmed, or self-doubt, Roberto offers profound advice: "Always keeping the kingdom of God first, understanding that you don't have to be looking at your bank account all the time, that you have to trust them and take steps and pray and surround yourself with other faith based individuals that can help you grow." He emphasizes humility, continuous learning, and being open to advice from mentors. Most importantly, he stresses the need to prioritize spiritual growth through scripture, prayer, and renewing one's mind. "Don't be too hard on yourself because sometimes you feel like you're not enough and it sucks and you feel like you're not doing anything when you're resting. But it's okay to rest, okay to take your Sabbath and enjoy what you've been doing and keep growing, keep trusting the Lord."
Roberto Gonzalez's journey is a powerful reminder that true leadership is not just about building a successful business, but about building a life and an organization that honors God, transforms lives, and leaves a lasting legacy of faith and purpose.
