Leading a Nation's Digital Future: How One CEO Grounds Strategy in Scripture

When the president of Gabon called Alberto Mungengi and asked him to come home, it wasn't just a job offer. It was the return on an investment he'd been making for years—an investment in God, in biblical leadership principles, and in the belief that faithful stewardship would be honored in ways he couldn't yet see.

Today, Alberto serves as CEO of the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure, Radio Frequencies and Cybersecurity for the entire nation of Gabon. With 500 direct reports and a mandate to lead the country's digital transformation, he's responsible for every digitalization initiative across government—from the Ministry of Energy to Homeland Security. If a department wants to move into the 21st century, they have to talk to Alberto first.

It's the kind of role that would paralyze most leaders with fear. But when people ask Alberto if he's afraid, they're met with a response that disarms them: "If God is on your side, who is going to be against you?"

Planted by the Water

Alberto's faith didn't emerge from a dramatic conversion experience. It began at age nine, when his father came home from work one day and announced to the family: "Your grandma believes in God, but I was not believing in God. But from now on, we have to become believers, Christian believers." His father handed him a Bible, enrolled the family in Bible studies, and drove all eight children to church every single day.

As the oldest son, Alberto was placed directly under his father's wing. "He showed me the proper way to believe God," Alberto recalls. "Since then, whatever I do, I'm always bringing God first and foremost."

Of his seven siblings, all came to faith—but Alberto is the one who remained rooted. He describes it as being "planted by the water," surrounded by like-minded believers who reinforced what his father started. That foundation would prove essential when he transitioned from engineering to leadership, a move his peers dismissed as unrealistic.

From Engineering to Executive Leadership

"You are an engineer. You're going to stay an engineer," his friends told him. "Leadership is not for you."

Alberto didn't argue. Instead, he sought out a mentor—someone one step ahead who could teach him what he needed to know. For an entire year, he learned the disciplines of leadership, business strategy, and executive decision-making. It wasn't a natural fit at first, but he trusted that God was preparing him for something beyond what he could see.

"The best way to learn is to find the right person, one step before me, and sit down with that person."

That investment—of time, humility, and tuition—didn't pay immediate dividends. But years later, when the president of Gabon called him home, Alberto recognized it as God's return on investment. "I was not really expecting God to bless me in big ways," he admits. "But I know God was there to bless me. What I didn't know was the way God was going to bless me."

Today, he's not only leading a national agency—he's also an international speaker, invited to share strategic insights on technology and leadership across continents.

Biblical Principles for National Strategy

Alberto doesn't compartmentalize his faith and his work. Every decision he makes is filtered through Scripture, particularly the book of Acts and the leadership principles in Exodus 18, where Moses' father-in-law advises him to delegate authority to faithful leaders over groups of ten, fifty, and more.

"That's where I bring God into my prayer before actually delegating," Alberto explains. "I choose faithful people to help carry the load." It's a principle that allows him to lead 500 people without burning out—and to do it with a calm confidence that others find disarming.

When asked how he stays so grounded under such pressure, Alberto points to his daily disciplines: prayer, guarding his thoughts, and continually asking himself which doors God wants him to leave open. "I know it's one day at a time, one step at a time," he says. "And I don't have any doubt that anything I do, I'm going to get God's blessing."

"How I tap into God first and foremost is early in the morning. I pray. I discipline myself on my thoughts. What is my thought? Which door should I be leaving open? How I guard and how I nurture my thoughts—that really helps me stay on track."

He also makes it a point to share biblical principles in every decision, even when he's not quoting chapter and verse. "Whatever I do, on every single decision I'm making, I'm always referring somewhere, somehow, to the Bible. I believe this is the standard for me."

Leading Across Faiths with Biblical Conviction

Not everyone in Alberto's circle shares his Christian faith—but that doesn't change his approach. "God is God for all of us," he says. "Knowing that the God of all of us helps me to have the right word to share with somebody, knowing that He will back it up."

He leads with empathy, focusing not on judgment but on growth—his own and his team's. "The renewed mind is not something you get once and for all. It's on a daily basis, every day, in any circumstance. I'm not really focusing on when somebody does something wrong, but always finding the way how they can improve themselves, how I can improve myself. Bringing everybody together—that's how we get results. That's how we become successful."

When people ask him why he doesn't show fear, he tells them the truth: he trusts God. "They say, 'Yeah, that's easy to say but not easy to live by,'" Alberto recounts. "But then they come straight back to me and say, 'How come we don't see any sign of fear?' And I repeat it over and over. My advice is not just to talk, but also to live by it."

The Simplest Advice He Can Give

Alberto is often asked how he got to where he is. His answer surprises people: "If I share my secret, I'm not sure you're going to believe it. Trust God, believe in God, and go open up the Bible—it's one of the most accessible books in the world. But once you start believing what is written there, you're going to achieve, you're going to see a change. That's what I did."

People expect more. They say, "That's all? That's it?"

"Yes, that's it," Alberto replies. "Because what is simple to do is really the hard thing to do."

"I've been reading a lot of books, but the common denominator is always the Bible principles. So my advice is: go and get the Bible, but just believe what is there. Don't ask too many questions. If it works, that's good. If it's not, make sure you separate it from faith. If you are able to do that, you will see God's blessing."

For Alberto, tithing and offerings aren't just obligations—they're investments in God's promises. "When you invest in something, there is an expectation to get something back. I'm investing in God. I'm paying my due. I tithe, I give offerings, and I'm expecting God to bless me. And that's what God has been doing for me."

A Call to Lead Without Fear

The leaders Alberto meets—across industries, continents, and faiths—all share one common challenge: fear. Fear of making the wrong decision. Fear of tomorrow. Fear of speaking up. He sees it everywhere.

But he doesn't live there. And when people ask him why, his answer is the same every time: "If God is on your side, who is going to be against you?"

It's not just something he says. It's something he lives. And the difference is unmistakable.

For the leader who's tired of fear-driven decision-making, who's exhausted from carrying the weight alone, who's wondering if faith really makes a practical difference in the boardroom—Alberto Mungengi's life is a living answer. The Bible isn't just a book on his shelf. It's the standard by which he leads a nation.

And God has honored that standard in ways he never expected.
