Kevin Williams's journey into entrepreneurship began unexpectedly. After years overseeing a platform of businesses for a small PE firm, a Friday phone call delivered the news: his position was eliminated. Rather than succumbing to discouragement, Kevin embraced the opportunity to forge a new path. "Since I had never been 'unemployed,' that led me to make lemonade out of lemons and establish Servus Business Transformation," he recounts. His vision was clear: to create an executive and business coaching practice dedicated to unlocking the inherent potential within individuals and organizations.
For Kevin, faith isn't a separate compartment of life; it's the very fabric of his existence. This seamless integration is evident in his daily leadership and coaching practice. "Faith is my life, so living it out is pretty easy as it is who I am," he shares. This deep conviction allows him to approach his work with a unique blend of compassion and spiritual insight. He often feels prompted to pray with and for his clients, even those who may not share his faith. "Coaching is very personal, and during some of the sessions, we deal with some tough issues. Often I will feel prompted to pray. I always ask in advance if they mind me praying. Never has a client turned down the request."
This willingness to bring his whole self, including his faith, into his professional interactions creates a space of trust and vulnerability, allowing for deeper, more meaningful transformation.
Leadership is often fraught with complex decisions, and for Kevin, faith serves as an unwavering compass. He recently faced a particularly challenging situation while overseeing a business in China. Due to unforeseen complications, revenues had dropped significantly, necessitating difficult decisions about right-sizing the company and potential layoffs. Feeling overwhelmed, Kevin found solace and direction in a powerful scripture.
"While I was doing my daily reading, God gave me this verse on the same day from two different sources. That will get your attention, and I have it on a post-it on my laptop so that I can see it every day: 'I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.' – Psalms 32:8." This verse became his anchor, guiding his approach to the sensitive personnel decisions, reminding him to seek divine wisdom in every step.
Kevin's faith also profoundly shapes how he allocates his most precious resources: time, talent, and treasure. He lives by the wisdom of Michael Nolan: "There are many things that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart; pursue those." Recognizing that life's years are finite, he intentionally focuses his energy on endeavors that align with his deepest convictions and purpose.
This principle of intentional stewardship ensures that his efforts are not scattered but concentrated on areas where he can make the most meaningful impact, both professionally and personally.
To fellow Christian business leaders, Kevin offers a powerful charge: "God put you where you are for a reason. Figure out that reason and work at it with all your heart until He tells you to stop." He emphasizes that leadership is a sacred trust, a high calling to honor and serve others, recognizing that every individual is an 'image bearer of God.'
He resonates deeply with Bob Chapman's definition of leadership: "Leadership is being a good steward of those entrusted to you." Kevin distills this wisdom into a simple yet profound mantra for impactful leadership: "Love God, love people, and be a good steward."
