From Corporate Success to Kingdom Calling: Wendy Melrose's Journey of Faith and Resilience

Listen to this article

Wendy Melrose, founder of Soel Love Books, now Resilience Press, shares a compelling journey of faith, entrepreneurship, and divine guidance. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of aligning one's will with God's, even when the path is unexpected and challenging.

Wendy's life is a vibrant tapestry woven with family, faith, and a relentless drive to provide. A devoted mother of two, she cherishes her blended family, celebrating birthdays and holidays together—a rare and healthy dynamic for her children. Her home is also filled with the joyful barks of Molly and May, her two beloved dogs.

Before launching Resilience Press, Wendy navigated a diverse career path, holding over 35 different jobs between the ages of 17 and 47. "I don't have a care of what I do to provide for my family," she states. However, a pivotal shift occurred in 2019 when she felt a strong pull to align her work with God's will. This led her to become an insurance agency owner with Farmers Insurance, a role she held for four years.

Her time in the insurance industry, while successful, brought forth two profound lessons that reshaped her understanding of faith and work.

Lesson 1: Never Compromise Your Faith

In 2020, Wendy achieved a significant milestone, earning the Commercial Cup for selling over 12 commercial policies in her first year—an unusual feat for a new agent. This success led to an interview opportunity with corporate. However, during the virtual setup, she was asked to remove the scriptures and faith-based decor visible in her background. Despite her aversion to confrontation, she complied.

"Any success that she had after that was flat," Wendy reflects. While she maintained her business and eventually sold it for a profit, she felt the absence of God's abundant blessings. "I didn't have the hand of God's blessings on it," she explains. This experience taught her a crucial lesson: "If somebody's like, you need to take your stuff down that honors God, the answer needs to be sorry. I guess I'm not supposed to be a part of this." She emphasizes that, in retrospect, she knows God would have protected and uplifted her, even if it meant losing that opportunity.

Lesson 2: The Power of Waiting on God

After selling her insurance agency, Wendy found herself in a new house, surrounded by new furniture—a tangible sign of God's provision. Yet, in this season of abundance, God gave her a directive that challenged her deeply: "Wait." For a driven individual accustomed to high-stress environments, this was like "hitting a brick wall." Panic set in, and she struggled to embrace the stillness.

In her impatience, Wendy admits, "I got ahead of God." She invested $5,000 in a course on hitting the royalty market on Amazon, a venture that proved to be a costly learning experience. She also found herself in a networking group where, despite the Christian claims of its members, she was guided down wrong paths, leading to a $25,000 loss in a single spring.

"The sale of my business money was gone in six months," she recounts. This period of loss, however, became a profound classroom. She learned to discern true leadership, navigate the complexities of the publishing world, and, most importantly, understand the value of waiting on God's timing. "The Lord did use all of that," she affirms, transforming her gap into a gain of invaluable wisdom.

A New Chapter: Resilience Press and Empowering Authors

Through these trials, God revealed Wendy's true calling: to empower others to share their stories. In 2023, after a powerful prayer revival service, her gift for writing poetry was rekindled. This led to her first published children's book, "Ben's Great Escape," and the eventual launch of Resilience Press.

In the last year and a half, Wendy has helped over 25 individuals become authors and facilitated the writing of chapters for 30 others in collaborative books. She has also ghostwritten multiple books and now focuses on cohorts, offering affordable and supportive guidance for aspiring authors. Her innovative use of AI, including custom GPTs for editing and outlining, further streamlines the publishing process, making it accessible to more people.

Encouragement for Blending Faith and Work

For those seeking to integrate their faith into their professional lives, Wendy offers powerful encouragement: "You can never go wrong with blending your faith with your work." She challenges the notion that one must dilute their faith to reach a broader audience, asserting that "the masses are looking for God."

Wendy emphasizes the importance of being "salt and light" and setting boundaries to protect one's faith while still serving others. She encourages individuals to ask God how He wants them to minister through their unique gifts and businesses. "He's created uniquely," she says, "and you can just ask him, 'Lord, I want to start being more for you in my business and not the world; can you just show me the way?' And he will. You just have to listen."

Her ultimate message is one of grace and perseverance: "If you screw up, there's grace, love, and forgiveness. Start again the next day." Wendy Melrose's journey is a powerful reminder that with God, every challenge can be transformed into a stepping stone for greater purpose and impact.
