Dawn Keller, founder of Crown Capital Multifamily Investments, is on a mission to empower individuals to build generational wealth and live a life of purpose. Her journey, rooted in a desire to avoid the "work until you drop" scenario she witnessed in her parents' generation, led her to the world of real estate investing. But beyond the financial gains, Dawn's story is a testament to the transformative power of faith in business and life.
Growing up, Dawn was taught the traditional path: work hard, save money, and invest in a 401k. While she excelled in the corporate world, a nagging question persisted: if this was the path to security, why were her parents, in their 70s, still working? This realization sparked a quest for an alternative – a way to achieve financial freedom and a more abundant life, not just for herself, but for others.
Multifamily real estate investing became her answer. What started as a personal endeavor to generate passive income soon blossomed into a calling to help others. "I realized I'm not the only one that feels this way," Dawn shares, recognizing the widespread desire for financial independence and a legacy for future generations. Her business, Crown Capital, is built on the principle of helping people grow their wealth and, in turn, free them to pursue their true purpose.
Beyond her entrepreneurial pursuits, Dawn is embarking on another deeply personal and impactful journey: writing a book about fertility. Having experienced the isolating struggle of infertility herself, she feels a profound calling to offer hope and love, especially to women navigating similar challenges. "I never thought of writing a book or being an author," she admits, "but that was really something, I think, that God put on my heart." This vulnerability, she believes, is a powerful form of strength, allowing her to share a "shared story" that can uplift and encourage others.
For Dawn, faith isn't just a Sunday activity; it's the bedrock of her daily leadership and business operations. She emphasizes that core values are not mere words on a website but the guiding principles by which one operates. Authenticity and integrity stand at the forefront of her approach.
"Leading with my heart is being authentic, running my business from my heart, being me, being the person that God designed me to be," she explains. This means resisting the urge to compare herself to others or succumb to imposter syndrome. She firmly believes that true success comes from aligning with God's unique purpose for her life, not from chasing worldly metrics.
This heart-led approach naturally extends to integrity. When faced with difficult decisions, Dawn consults a higher authority. "In my heart, what am I doing? What's the right thing to do?" she asks, prioritizing divine guidance over financial gain or popular opinion. This unwavering commitment to her faith ensures that her business decisions are rooted in righteousness.
Even in the realm of networking, a necessary but often draining activity for her as an "introverted extrovert," Dawn embraces authenticity. She reminds herself that not everyone will "vibe" with her, and that's okay. The goal is to connect with those who resonate with her genuine self, leading to meaningful relationships rather than superficial interactions.
Dawn's faith-driven decision-making is perhaps best illustrated by a recent experience. She had been actively praying for God to "close the doors that you don't want me to go through" regarding a small business opportunity. When a perfect real estate asset appeared, checking all her boxes, she was ecstatic. However, her excitement was short-lived as the opportunity was already under contract.
Instead of disappointment, Dawn felt gratitude. "I literally just prayed that yesterday," she recalled, recognizing God's immediate answer. "Thank you for that closed door. I don't know why, but you closed it for a reason." This powerful testimony highlights a crucial aspect of faith: God's answers may not always align with our expectations, but they are always for our good.
This experience reinforced her belief that God operates on a different playbook than the world. "It's not my job to figure out how," she asserts, "it's His job to figure out how. It's my job to seek Him and obey and let Him do His job." She firmly believes that the Holy Spirit is the ultimate business advisor, whose opinion trumps all others, even when it goes against conventional wisdom.
The recent passing of her father prompted Dawn to reprioritize her life, recognizing the preciousness of time and the importance of purposeful living. She learned to say "no" to things that didn't align with her values, even if it meant overcoming the guilt of not being constantly busy.
One area she consistently prioritizes is volunteering. Her therapy-certified dog, Fiona, brings joy to nursing homes, senior centers, and elementary schools. This act of selfless service, born out of a desire to combat loneliness during the pandemic, fills her heart and exemplifies her commitment to giving back. "It fills my heart to bring a smile to someone's face that's just lonely," she shares.
Dawn's message to other Christian business leaders is clear: be a light in a sometimes dark world. "You never know who's watching and who needs to hear and see the hope and love of Jesus," she emphasizes. In a world often consumed by negativity, she believes it's crucial for believers to stand firm in their faith, even when it's not the popular opinion.
Drawing inspiration from Colossians 3:2, she encourages others to "set your minds on things above and not of things of this world." This perspective allows her to navigate challenges and make decisions based on eternal values rather than fleeting worldly trends. "What's going to matter the most?" she asks, guiding her choices.
Ultimately, Dawn sees herself and other believers as "a mirror of Christ," privileged to share the message of hope and love. "God has a purpose for your life," she concludes. "Focus on what that is. Seek him and he'll do the rest."
Dawn Keller's journey is a powerful example of how integrating faith into every aspect of business and life can lead to not only personal prosperity and growth but also a profound impact on the lives of others, all for the glory of God.
