In a world often quick to compartmentalize faith and profession, Melissa Mashburn stands as a testament to the transformative power of an integrated calling. As the CEO of the Ministry Chick Network, Melissa has cultivated a vibrant global community of over 3,600 women, all united by a shared purpose: to live out their ministry, whether in the local church, the marketplace, or their daily lives.
Melissa's journey with the Ministry Chick Network began not with a grand vision of her own, but with a divine invitation. Initially joining to shepherd a nascent Facebook group of 300 women, she quickly recognized a profound need for community and support among women in ministry. This initial step, born from a spirit of service, blossomed into a full-fledged calling. "This is exactly what I've been praying for," Melissa recalls, highlighting the discernment that guided her into this pivotal role.
What started as a community platform evolved into a comprehensive network under Melissa's leadership. Recognizing the broader scope of 'ministry,' she rebranded the organization to the Ministry Chick Network, emphasizing collaboration and a "bigger table" where Christian women in business and ministry could find support and showcase their work. This vision extends beyond traditional church settings, recognizing that every believer is called to kingdom work, regardless of their professional sphere.
Scaling this vision required more than just passion; it demanded strategic growth and a reliance on divine provision. In just two years, Melissa's team expanded to include a Director of Communications and Marketing, a Director of Leadership and Coaching, and a video content editor. This expansion allowed the network to diversify its offerings, moving beyond six-month coaching groups to include five online courses, downloadable resources, and a year-long membership system. Crucially, while embracing digital tools, Melissa ensures the community element remains central. Annual surveys consistently reveal a deep desire for connection, leading to "office hours" and interactive sessions where women can share challenges and find support in an "iron sharpening iron" environment.
Melissa's approach to leadership is deeply rooted in her faith. She operates the Ministry Chick Network with "open hands, palms up," acknowledging that it is God's ministry, not her own. This posture of stewardship permeates every aspect of her work, from praying with her team and coaching clients to dedicating a solid hour each morning to prayer and scripture before engaging with the day's demands. This commitment to discernment is not merely theoretical; Melissa recounts a powerful example from 2024. After mapping out ambitious goals, she felt a divine nudge to wait. Yet, within three months, God brought three team members who seamlessly filled the gaps, enabling 85% of her "crazy giant board" of ideas to materialize. This year, the focus has shifted from expansion to refinement, a testament to her ongoing dialogue with God.
For Melissa, faith also shapes how she invests her limited resources. As a self-proclaimed Enneagram 3 achiever, embracing Sabbath and listening to her body has been a conscious and transformative journey. She recognizes authentic leadership flows from a place of health and wholeness, not from striving. This intentional rest allows her to lead from a place of renewed strength and divine guidance.
To other Christian business leaders, Melissa offers profound advice: "Don't do this alone." While Christ is the ultimate partner, the journey of a Christian entrepreneur is unique, requiring a community of like-minded individuals who understand the distinct challenges and triumphs. Mastermind groups and peer connections provide a safe space for real conversations, fostering growth and preventing isolation. This emphasis on community and collaboration is not just a strategic choice for Melissa; it's a foundational principle for living out a kingdom calling with authenticity and impact.
